Welcome to our Oscar Adventure!

Part Two

As soon as they opened the doors, we were let into the tent, superbly decorated. (For the best view of the room, go to the official Oscar site, it has before and after pictures of the tent they set up). An orchestra was playing in the middle of the room, on a revolving stage. After a brief search for our table - even the waiters had to search - we were seated at a premium spot (of course). We were very impressed with the table setting, the menus were pieces of art. Again we were very thirsty for some more Laurent Perrier. The service staff was very attentive, and our glasses were kept full all night. The food, by Wolfgang Puck, was delicious, and we were starving.

After the first course , it was time for some more roaming. We spotted Steve Martin in a table close to us, and Russell Crowe was holding court towards the middle of the room. I spotted Sigourney Weaver, but refrained from asking for an autograph until she stopped eating (aren't you proud of me?). As soon as she got up, though, I asked for an autograph for Nicholas - who is in an Alien phase right now. We talked about her new movie, Heartbreakers, which Nick wants to see because she's in it. She was very nice. When I returned to the table, Steve showed me Tom Hanks', also for Nicholas. Tom Hanks had his son with him, so Steve remarked that it was a good day to "take your son to work" day. He agreed. The second course was waiting, the potato with caviar was served with a small mother-of-pearl spoon. Very elegant.

Time for some more roaming and pictures. I searched for an Oscar to take a picture. I found one at one of the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon table . After I took it, security told me I was not allowed to take pictures that I had to surrender my camera! I followed another security guy, and checked my camera with some very nice ladies, and returned to the table. Steve wasn't happy, but we understood why they want to control all pictures - it's the money! We danced a bit, ate the main course, and observed that the room was getting emptier, or not as crowded. The desert, with its golden Oscar, was very elegant, to go with the entire decor. Time to investigate the party we were invited to, the Detour party at the Kass Bah Restaurant in West Hollywood.
