Our Adventure started at 2pm, when the limo picked us up. We made sure we had enough supply (3 bottles of Laurent Perrier Champagne) to last us through the ride to L. A. After Steve and I consumed a whole bottle, we decided that we should share our bounty with, no less, the man responsible for all that goodness in the US - Françoise Xavier, and his wife, Krista. We proceeded to the L'Ermitage and met Patrick and Lori Daul as well . After a brief leg stretch, we piled into the limo, for we were anxious. Another toast , and we looked just like the international jet set. François and Krista decided to act like lovebirds , and we all applauded! The trip to the Shriner Auditorium was a snap - we didn't even finish our third bottle! - but the traffic got busier as we got closer - too many limos in one spot!
The excitment was in the air as we approached THE Red Carpet. Just before the security check, we stepped aside for somebody in a hurry. A big guy (security) was pulling someone behind him. It was Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell right behind. Our first brush with celebrity of the day! After the security check,
we walked into a sea of people and paparazzi. There were people being interviewed, like Kevin Spacey, so we tried to slowly go past, so we could get our 5 seconds of fame - and stood behind Jennifer Lopez, whose bodyguard was having a blast. Apparently, it worked - Alda saw us on ABC, passing behind Sigourney Weaver, who was giving an interview.
It was almost time for the show to start, so we went in. I saw Ed Harris, wished him good luck. He looked a bit nervous, but then, so would I! Our seats, on the orchestra back, were great. We got to see the coming and going of everybody. All the "heavy duty" celebrities - nominees and presenters - seat towards the front. During commercial breaks, we roamed the aisles. I saw Julia Stiles going by, and knew Tatiana would want an autograph, so I followed her just before commercial break, and got it . I had to stay outside during this part of the show, until the commercials were back. Marcia Gay Harden was holding court, with her beautiful smile, stars in her eyes, receiving congratulations for her new golden statue.
Back inside, the show had been going on, and Steve said I didn't miss much, told me who got what. I must say I was disappointed that The Patriot didn't get an award for cinematography, the movie was beautiful. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, who won, was gorgeous as well. We all cheered for our favorites, sometimes agreeing with the results, sometimes not. All in good fun. At the end of the show - was it only three and a half hours? - we all moved towards the doors to go to the Governor's Ball.
