Places to stay in
    Búzios and Rio

You will need a hotel in Búzios for 5 nights and in Rio for 3 nights - unless you want to hang around Búzios the whole time. You can ask Tony Banos to make the arrangements for you or do it yourself.

There is the possibility that if enough people want to stay at one place, it can be taken over - some of these places have 10 bedrooms or less. The rate usually includes breakfast. The links for Pousadas close to us (Bed & Breakfast) in Búzios are:

Abracadabra Pousada - 16 rooms
Armação dos Búzios - 37 rooms
Glenzhaus - 10 rooms
Mandragora
A Colonia - 7 rooms
Byblos - 21 rooms
Solar do Peixe Vivo - 10 rooms
Vila do Mar - 18 rooms
Vila D'Este - 12 rooms + 2 bungalows
Pousada dos Reis

We're staying at the Praia dos Ossos, which is "downtown" (Armação/Centro on the Búzios on line site). Other places are just as good, but might require a car to come and go:

Baia do João
Timoneiro
Alto de Geriba
Pousada Amoras - (close to golf course)
Hibiscus Beach
Casagrande - 10 rooms, not too far from where we're staying.

The prices (Tarifas) are sometimes in Real (the local currency, R$) and sometimes in US$ dollars. The prices range from US$70 to US$150/ night. Some are single occupancy, meaning, the price is per person per night. Most of them you can book through the internet. Pay attention to their reservation policy, some charge a day's rent for cancellation, and the full stay for a no-show.

For hotels in Rio, these are some links - double occupancy between US$130 and US$300:

Hotel Mar Ipanema - this is the hotel I stayed in 2000. Nothing fancy, close to the beach in Ipanema, a bit dingy.
Ipanema Inn - awesome location, ok prices.
Hotel Marina - in Leblon (close to Ipanema).
Hotel Praia Ipanema
Hotel Sol Ipanema is a Best Western, and they charge accordingly for the name.

Please have in mind that I'm giving you the links for hotels that I would stay in Ipanema and Leblon, not of the best deal you can find. There are plenty of places to stay around Rio, some are not close to the action, others too close to the wrong type of action. Ask Tony about it. A great site to check out rates and hotels is www.tripadvisor.com, the forum has advice given by past guests, very insightful, plus they have a listing of hotels under US$100. Ipanema and Leblon are the best bets, Copacabana can be tricky.
